So I was trying to find out the other day what is the interest rate on my NatWest Credit Card? I searched high and low on the NatWest Bank website and couldn’t find this information anywhere. There were details about the current credit card that they are offering which is the Platinum card with interest rates starting at 6.9% (the interest rate will depend on personal circumstances), but there was no information about the interest rate on a standard Natwest Credit Card like the one I have held for over 25 years.
So I tried using the ‘Chat Now’ feature on the Natwest site and the people there couldn’t help either. They said the rate was on my credit card statement but I no longer get credit card statements by snail mail so that wasn’t of much use. So they said to call the number on the back of my card. The number was 0870 333 9091 and I am afraid I object to calling those numbers as they cost so much on my mobile. Anyway, I found another number (01268 508018) and got through to a helpful lady.
Anyway, it turns out that the interest rate on a standard Natwest credit card varies person to person. I don’t know how they work it out as I have been a customer of theirs for, like I say, over 25 years. I have no other debts or credit cards so I thought I might get a good rate. But how would they know this and would they even bother checking or reassessing my interest rate? So the long and the short of it is that my NatWest Credit Card interest rate is 17.9% per annum. Whether yours is or not, well who knows? It seems that you can go online and check your downloadable statements for the rate. I looked at mine and it said 1.385% per month for purchases, so that does indeed come out at 17.9% when you compound it up (1.01385^12).
