If you want to know how to get rid of weeds in your lawn in an environmentally friendly manner without using weed killer then I have found something that offers a really good solution.

I bought a Fiskars Xact weed puller from Amazon UK which works really well to take out the weeds in my lawn, particularly the dandelions. There have been quite a lot of them come up when we had a week of rain followed by lots of sun and they had all come into flower so I wanted to get rid of them before they seeded and made things even worse.

Although that is the UK option, there are a lot of options also available in the US like this one. I’m not sure it is as study as the Fiskars model but it is made of steel so hopefully should do a good job of pulling weeds.

The good thing about this weed puller is that it takes out the weeds from the root so that they shouldn’t just grow straight back.

Another benefit of using this is that it is really easy on your back. I had a back operation a few years ago and can struggle with things that make you lean over but this is long enough that you don’t have to bend down and it has an easy release mechanism on the handle to get the weeds off when you have dug them up.

The video below shows how you use it. Basically you aim the 4 prongs over the top of the weed and then you tread down on the mechanism that secures the weeds in the grabber. Once you have done this you just pull the handle back and the weed comes out, root and all. You then use the sliding push mechanism on the handle to deposit the weed where you want it.

The weeds come out with their roots so this makes a good way to permanently get rid of them.

Of course you could try a weed and feed on the lawn but this would take a while to work and is not so environmentally friendly as this method. The weed extractor is obviously more expensive but it is a sturdy device that should last many years so you should find it cost effective in the long term.
