This summer I was putting up my 4.5m x 2.2m Intex pool on my patio instead of where it had been at my old house, on the grass. I decided I needed to find the best underfloor mats for the pool that were not too expensive.
I checked out quite a few options on Amazon as there seemed to be so many, but to be honest I didn’t want to pay £50+ or so for them and that seemed to be the only option.
The best things that I found, which was my preferred option, were the black interlocking foam mats that are about 1cm thick. These are actually probably the best option for comfort due to the thickness and they are usually 60x60cm so that would mean you would need 32 to cover the floor area under the pool. There are quite a few on sale on Amazon and one of the cheapest options seemed to be these ones which would cost £53 for 36 tiles (that is currently an offer price so it might change).
With funds a bit tighter than that I searched elsewhere! I looked for foam underlay boards and found these at B&Q for about £25. OK they are a lot thinner than the Amazon ones but I figured they would do the job of stopping anything sharp piercing the pool liner and making it a bit softer underfoot.
They are only 5mm thick but you get 20 in a pack which actually was just OK to go underneath the pool. I already had a tarpaulin to put underneath those so that is what I went ahead with and it seems to have worked fine. I kept them together by using some gaffer tape I had hanging around as they were not interlocking ones.
I had jetwashed the patio beforehand so it was clear of weeds which will also hopefully stop anything else coming up while the pool is on the patio.
You can read more about how to put up the pool here. It’s a great pool and hopefully the weather will be good enough for the kids to enjoy it during the summer.
