Horoscopes and Zodiac Signs

Many people lay great store on reading their horoscope every day to see what they have in store. Others, however, feel that there is no chance that just because of the day you were born and how the planets were aligned would foretell our fortunes.

But, whatever you believe in, there was a shock in store this year when the astronomers (the ones that look at the stars) told the astrologers (the ones who interpret zodiac signs and horoscopes etc) that the zodiac signs were a month out of line!

TIME magazine reported that: according to the Minnesota Planetarium Society, the signs of the zodiac should be as follows:

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius:
 Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces:
 March 11-April 18.
Aries:
 April 18-May 13.
Taurus:
 May 13-June 21.
Gemini:
 June 21-July 20.
Cancer:
 July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo:
 Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra:
 Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus:
 Nov. 29-Dec. 17.
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

Now you may notice here that there is one extra sign, Ophiuchus, which has pushed all of the others out of whack.

But the question is, will the astrologers take this on board and change all of their previous ideas? Well surely this would undo most of the work that they have been  carrying out over the past decades or centuries? Or, would this actually put right the wrongs that people have seen in horoscopes which made them think that they were useless?

Well some astrologers always believed that there were 13 signs of the zodiac anyway. and have done for thousands of years – so maybe it is not news to them. On the other had there is a school of thought that says there are two types of zodiac signs, one more used in the west which is seasonal and the 13 sign zodiac used in the East.  So there seems to be no need to panic if you are using the western one as nothing will have changed, it is only the eastern one that has changed.

As for me, I am a scorpio and happy with that. If I went to the 13 sign zodiac I would be a Libra and to be honest, having read a few ideas of Libran women’s characteristics, that is for sure not me!!

Clip Art on Yahoo and Google

If you use either of these big search engines to look for clip art then you will come up with a lot of options. Sometimes you can come up with huge clip art directories for free – or even if they are not free you can buy a large quantity of clip art pictures for a very small cost.

Within Yahoo they have a directory of services and in the clip art yahoo directory alone you will find over 70 websites listed that are offering different types of clipart images, either for sale or for free.

If you are looking on Google for clipart then you might want to use a Google advanced image search to find the kind of clip art that you are looking for – especially if you want to find a particular image, say of a dog or something, then you can go to the Google advanced image search and you can select the option ‘clip art’ rather than a photo or a drawing or the straightforward search will will bring up all images whether clip art or not.

Be careful when you use any clip art images though, as you need to check whether they are copyrighted or you have the right licence to use them.

Google Plus – Will it Work?

Some people are saying that google plus is the next great thing but my question is, do we already have enough social networks and are we already in overload? It is hard enough to keep track of facebook, twitter, linked in, myspace and anything else you may be a member of so are we going to benefit by the introduction of google +?

My personal opinion, as a Google fan and a gmail user, is that I will be staying away from it until a lot of my friends are using it. Currently I only have a couple of contacts on there and I don’t yet see the benefit – but then did people say that about facebook? Will people get bored of facebook and want something new and so head over to Google plus?

The one advantage that Google seem to have introduced with google plus is the concept of circles of friends or colleagues etc. This means that people can check out what particular circles of friends are up to and interact with them in that way. However, until you have a lot of circles there isn’t much use to this!

With all new concepts it takes a while for things to catch on and Google plus will likely be no different. Whether or not it catches on to the extent that facebook or twitter have I very much doubt. But then again in a few years I may have to eat my words.
