So it got to the point where I needed to cancel my Sky subscription as I could no longer afford it and I was wondering if I could still watch TV on my Sky box without a subscription. After all there are a number of free to air channels on there that I don’t need to pay for. But I wasn’t sure if I needed to view the TV using Freesat or Freeview, neither of which I had connected to my TV.
I waited until my Sky subscription had been cancelled and I checked my TV and I found that I could watch all the free to air TV channels on my Sky box. Obviously there was a lot of stuff that I couldn’t do. I couldn’t watch any of the programs that I had recorded before, I couldn’t use catch up TV to watch anything (through the Sky box) and I didn’t have the ability to record or live pause any programmes. In fact anything that involved storage on the box was a no go. But if you are happy just to be able to view the free to air channels then you can still do this using your Sky box without having to pay any money.
One tip I would give is to go to Options on the main Sky menu and add all the free channels to your favourites. That way, you just need to go to the planner, click on the left arrow and you just see all the free channels in the menu and not all the other stuff you can’t actually watch 🙂
