So I recently purchased an HP 2620 (one of the 2600 series) all in one printer – it was pretty cheap and had a good deal whereby if you don’t use much ink you can get it free with HP Instant Ink.
Anyway, I wanted to set this up and connect to a Chromebook which was a task in itself. In order to do this I first needed to connect the printer to the Wifi network. In theory this should have been very easy by pressing the Wifi button on the printer and then pressing the WPS button on the Wifi router.
However, even though this seemed to be the advice from multiple websites, the printer would not connect to the router no matter how close I brought it to the printer!
I figured that surely there would be another solution on the internet but every time I Googled to find out how to connect the HP 2600 to Wifi all I got was this solution.
So, I looked again through the printer booked and there was a QR code in there to scan to get more help. I scanned it on my iPhone and went through to the resulting web page. This told me to download an app (“HP Smart”) which then gave me very easy and detailed instructions as to how to get the printer connected to the router and thank heavens this worked!
So, if you can’t get your HP 2600 series printer to connect (and I think the problem was exacerbated by the fact that the 2620 didn’t really have any kind of message screen or anywhere to enter anything) then that may be your best bet to get it connected.
And at the end, once the printer had connected to the Wifi network, it was picked up by the Chromebook and printed away quite happily.
I don’t know whether it should have actually connected using the WPS button (I suspect it should have) but it was definitely not going to do it so I am glad this method worked in the end.
